Zareena Violet's Story

Around 11 years ago, Zareena Violet, now 61, was diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA) of the right knee. It affected her knee joint, causing pain and stiffness in her right knee. She took medication and a course of injections prescribed by a local hospital but her knee only showed very slight improvement. Over the last decade, her condition has generally worsened and greatly compromised her mobility. She has been advised to undergo total knee replacement, as this is the only way to get back the use of her leg.

While Zareena has a medical solution available to her, she cannot opt for it due to the high costs of the surgery. Her husband has been out of work for two years due to an unfortunate accident that irreversibly hurt his arm. Zareena cannot work either due to her knee pain. Out of her 5 children, one is married and lives separately, and the other four still live with her. Her eldest daughter bears the financial responsibility of the entire family by working at a beauty parlor. This family has to meet all their monthly expenses, including 10,000 PKR rent, with just a small paycheck of 25,000 PKR/month.

Zareena Violet's Story

Zareena Violet, 61 years old, was previously diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her knee joints. Over a period of time, her joints got completely damaged. For the treatment of this condition, the doctor recommended a total knee replacement surgery for her right knee first since it was more painful. She was admitted in PSRD hospital and the surgery was performed by Dr. Saleem Bashir on 24.10.2020. Zareena was admitted in the hospital for ten days and was discharged in a stable condition. She is taking ample rest so that her knee heals completely and she can resume her day to day activities.
