For the past eight years he has been experiencing discomfort and shortsightedness. He is diagnosed to have been suffering from a B/L cataract affecting his left eye. A cataract is a clouding of the clear lens that eventually interferes with vision. Some signs and symptoms of cataracts include: dim, clouded or blurred vision, difficulty with vision during night, increasing sensitivity of the eye to light and glare, seeing “halos” around lights, double vision in affected eyes. In order to heal from this ailment, Munir Masih has been advised to undergo Phaco of his left eye and placement of the intraocular lens (IOL). Phaco with an intraocular lens (IOL) is a brief surgical procedure where the cataract-affected lens inside the eye is removed, and replaced with an artificial lens in its place. “For the past few months, the discomfort in my eyes increased after which I sought medical assistance. The doctor advised me to undergo a surgical procedure, but unfortunately due to financial constraints I couldn’t afford the surgery. I am also diabetic so this surgery is crucial for my well-being as my vision is rapidly deteriorating. My son is the sole breadwinner of the family and earns PKR. 15,000 per month. We are living in a rented house. In these circumstances he can not afford to pay for my eye surgery.”

Munir Masih 's Story
Munir Masih, aged 65 years, suffered from pain and discomfort in his eyes. His vision started to decline as well. These symptoms started affecting his daily life so he decided to consult a doctor. The eye examination revealed that a cataract had developed in both of his eyes. The doctor advised phacoemulsification surgery for his left eye first. Therefore, Munir Masih was admitted to Maryam Memorial Hospital where the surgery was performed by Dr. Sohail on 09.07.2021. He was discharged the same day in a satisfactory condition. Munir’s eyesight in the left eye has improved since the surgery.
