Mai Sachal's Story

Mai Sachal, a 36-year-old resident of Ghotki, found her life drastically changed when she tragically lost both of her hands while working on a chaff cutter machine. This devastating incident occurred three years ago and left her in urgent need of medical intervention. She sought immediate medical attention and received initial first-aid treatment at a nearby hospital. The doctors, after assessing her condition, advised her to undergo an elbow disarticulation procedure for her right arm and a below-elbow amputation for her left arm.

An elbow disarticulation procedure involves surgically separating the lower arm from the upper arm at the elbow joint. In Mai Sachal’s case, this was necessary due to the injury to her right arm. Additionally, her left arm required a below-elbow amputation. The medical professionals further recommended that she be fitted with a prosthetic arm for both arms.

Mai Sachal’s tough situation is made worse by her daily struggles. She lives in Ghotki in a small rented house with her husband and five children. Her husband, the sole earner works as a daily wager and makes just PKR 15,000 a month. This small amount is not enough to cover their house rent, utility bills, groceries, children’s school fees, and daily living costs. The additional cost of the prosthetic arms she needs is way out of their financial reach, making Mai Sachal feel helpless.

She said with teary eyes:

“My lost arm painfully echoes all my sacrifices, making each day a battle. I urgently need your financial help to feel complete again.”

Mai Sachal has approached Transparent Hands and submitted all the necessary documents to register her case. We are dedicated to providing her with the prosthetic arms she requires. However, without the support of generous individuals, we will be unable to gather the funds necessary to meet her needs. Mai Sachal is in desperate need of artificial arms to restore her sense of wholeness and dignity.
