Nasreen, a 44-year-old resident of Karachi, has been suffering from abdominal pain and swelling around the umbilicus for the past few years. She went to the local hospital to visit the general surgeon. After a thorough evaluation and diagnostic tests, she was diagnosed with a paraumbilical hernia. A paraumbilical hernia occurs when the intestine or other abdominal contents protrude through a weakened area near the belly button. The doctor advised her to undergo mesh hernioplasty.
