Maira Amjad Amjad Mehmood's Story

Maira Amjad, a five-year-old resident of Rawalpindi, is a young girl burdened by the silence that surrounds her. Born without the ability to hear, she is unable to experience the joy of hearing her loved ones’ voices or the beautiful sounds of the world. Her longing to communicate and connect with others remains unfulfilled, as the absence of sound inhibits her growth and hinders her ability to engage with the world around her. In hope to find a solution, her parents went to a hospital, where after evaluation tests, the doctor recommended a cochlear implant surgery.

Maira resides in a small two-room house in Rawalpindi with her parents and three siblings. Her father, the sole provider for the family, works tirelessly in a private job, earning a monthly income of PKR 50,000. However, this income barely covers their basic needs, as he must allocate a significant portion towards essential expenses such as rent, groceries, and educational costs for the children. The financial strain is overwhelming. leaving no room for savings or the ability to afford the costly surgical expenses required for Maira’s cochlear implant surgery.

Maira’s father said in despair:
