Jameel Ahmed's Story

Jameel Ahmed, a 19-year-old boy from Khuzdar, Balochistan, had his life turned upside down three months ago when he became a victim of a devastating road traffic accident. The accident left him with paraplegia, completely paralyzing both of his lower limbs. After a thorough evaluation and initial medical assistance, the doctors recommended Jameel undergo treatment with a Hip Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (HKAFO) assistive device to help him regain mobility.

Jameel resides in a dilapidated two-room rented house in Khuzdar with his parents and six siblings. His father is a daily wage laborer and the only breadwinner in the family, who barely PKR 20,000 monthly. His father’s income is so limited that he hardly pays the house rent of PKR 8,000 along with a utility bill of PKR 2,000 and other daily expenses.

After an accident left Jameel disabled, he has become dependent on his father’s limited income, unable to contribute financially. The scarcity of medical facilities in Khuzdar only adds to his feelings of helplessness and devastation, as obtaining the necessary care becomes an even greater challenge.

Jameel said, “I had so many dreams and plans. Nevertheless, the accident changed everything. Now, I cannot do anything but depend on my father’s limited earnings. It hurts to see my family struggling, and I can’t help them.”
