Abida Saleem's Story

Abida Saleem, a 43-year-old woman from Karachi, has been suffering from pain in her upper right abdominal region for a month. She also faces repeated episodes of nausea, vomiting, and intolerance to fatty meals. Sometimes, her condition becomes so overwhelming that it leaves her extremely fatigued, forcing her to stay in bed for hours. Concerned about her condition, she went to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing an ultrasound scan as well as some lab tests, the doctor diagnosed Abida with Cholelithiasis – the formation of hard mineral deposits in the gallbladder. To alleviate her pain, the doctor advised laparoscopic cholecystectomy. However, the cost of the surgery is out of their financial reach.

If left untreated, her condition may lead to serious health issues such as gallbladder infection (cholecystitis), bile duct obstruction, pancreatitis, or even permanent damage to internal organs. The longer the surgery is delayed, the greater the risk to her health and well-being.

Abida lives in a small home with her husband and eight children, two of whom are living with polio. Among the remaining six children, four are currently pursuing their education, with a monthly school fee of PKR 3,500. Her husband, who teaches the Holy Quran at a madrasa and also provides private tuition, earns a monthly income of PKR 50,000. With this limited amount, they barely manage utility bills of PKR 4,500 and all other household expenses including food, medication, and the special needs of their children with disabilities. With no savings to rely on, affording the cost of the surgery is simply not possible for them.

Abida shared her pain in these words:

“I try to stay strong for my children, but the pain becomes unbearable. I just want to feel better, so I can look after my family and be there for my children, especially the ones who need me most. Kindly help me get the much-needed treatment.”

Your support can bring Abida much-needed relief from her constant suffering. Let’s stand together and help her regain her health and strength, so she can continue to care for her children. Your generosity can be the reason she smiles again.

Abida Saleem's Story

Abida Saleem, a 43-year-old woman from Karachi, was struggling with pain in her upper right abdominal region. Alongside the discomfort, she faced repeated episodes of nausea, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate fatty meals. The severity of her symptoms often left her fatigued and confined to bed for hours, disrupting her ability to care for her family. Worried about her worsening condition, Abida visited a local hospital for a consultation. After conducting an ultrasound scan and necessary lab tests, the doctor diagnosed her with Cholelithiasis, a condition caused by gallstones in the gallbladder. The doctor recommended laparoscopic cholecystectomy to remove the gallbladder and prevent further complications. However, the cost of the surgery was beyond her family’s financial capacity.

Abida lives in a modest home with her husband and eight children. Two of her children are living with polio, requiring ongoing care and attention. Among the remaining six, four are currently enrolled in school, adding to the household’s educational expenses. Her husband works as a Quran teacher at a madrasa and also provides private tuition, earning PKR 50,000 per month. From this income, they must cover utility bills, groceries, school fees, and medical expenses for their children with disabilities. With no savings and a tight budget, affording the surgery was impossible. During their search for help, the family reached out to Transparent Hands. After knowing about her situation, we swiftly registered her case.

On June 27, 2025, she was admitted to Murshid Hospital, Karachi, where Dr. Khalid Shafiq successfully performed her laparoscopic cholecystectomy. She received post-operative care and was discharged in good health on June 28, 2025.

With a smile of relief, Abida shared:

“Living with constant pain was exhausting, and it affected my whole family. Thanks to your support, I was able to get the much-needed surgery. I can now eat without discomfort and look after my children again. This has made an enormous difference in my life.”

Today, Abida is free from the pain that once dominated her days. Her family is deeply grateful for your kindness that brought her back to health. Your generosity truly changed Abida’s life.
