Gulalai Bibi's Story

Meet Gulalai Bibi, a 10-year-old girl from Malakand, KPK, who has spent her entire childhood battling with shortness of breath and chest discomfort. While other children run and play freely, Gulalai often sits quietly, struggling to catch her breath. Gulalai now experiences swelling in her legs and feet, frequent fatigue, and difficulty breathing, even with minimal activity. Concerned for her health, her parents took her to a hospital for a detailed medical evaluation. After some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed Gulalai with severe Ebstein Anomaly and Tricuspid Regurgitation (TR). It indicates a serious heart condition characterized by a malformed tricuspid valve and significant leakage of blood back into the right atrium.

The doctor advised her to undergo Tricuspid Valve Repair with or without a Central Pulmonary (CP) Shunt to improve her heart function. However, the significant cost of the surgery is beyond her family’s reach.

Without this life-saving surgery, Gulalai’s condition will continue to deteriorate. It may lead to heart failure, worsening swelling, and dangerously low oxygen levels in her body. Each passing day without surgery reduces her chances of living a normal, and healthy childhood.

Gulalai lives in a rented house with her parents and three siblings. Her father works in a marble factory and earns PKR 32,000 per month. Despite his hard work, the family struggles to cover their house rent of PKR 6000, utility bills amounting to PKR 2500, and children school’s fees of PKR 10,000 fees. To make ends meet, they have taken a loan of PKR 130,000, which they are unable to repay. With this overwhelming financial burden, affording Gulalai’s surgery is beyond their reach.

Gulalai’s parents expressed their concerns as follows:

“Watching her struggle to breathe breaks our hearts. She’s so young and brave. We just want to see her healthy and happy like other children, but we can’t afford her surgery. We request you to kindly contribute for Gulalai’s life-saving surgery.”

Gulalai’s life depends on your kindness. Your contributions can give her the chance to breathe freely, grow strong, and have the childhood she deserves.
