Sixty five years old Shamim Ahkter, a resident of Attock has been suffering from discomfort in her. Over the passage of some time she is also experiencing loss of sigh in her right eye. For this purpose she was taken to a hospital for consultation. Upon consultation she was diagnosed with Right Eye Cataract.

Shamim lives with her husband and five sons, two of which are minors, and one son is paralysed. Her eldest son is the only earning person in the family. In such circumstances it was already very difficult for him to make both ends meet and now his mother has fallen prey to this disease.

Shamim was advised to undergo a Right eye Phaco with foldable PC IOL. Due to limited financial resources, she cannot afford the surgery. A neighbour told Shamim’s son about Transparent Hands and they came to us for registeration. She shared her distress with Transparent Hands in the following manner:

“My kids need more of my time and attention, and with this extremely blurred and poor vision I can hardly manage any chores. How am I supposed to look after my kids? Being a mother and not being able to take care of them due to this condition, sends me down a guilt trip. ”

Shamim Akhter's Story

Shamim Akhtar, a 55-year-old resident of Attock, was diagnosed with right eye cataract and was advised a right phacoemulsification surgery along with an intraocular lens implant for the right eye since it was more affected. For this purpose, she was admitted to Maryam Memorial Hospital and the procedure was performed by Dr. Sohail Zia on 01.11.2021. Shamim Akhtar did not have to stay in the hospital as she was discharged the same day after the procedure in a stable condition. Her vision has cleared after the surgery.
