Samreen Sadiq's Story

Samreen has been suffering due to a deadly cardiac disease since birth. She underwent a cardiac procedure when she was a child, but she is still experiencing shortness of breath and cyanosis. She needs surgery to overcome her complex heart conditions, but her family cannot afford to pay for it. You can support Samreen’s open-heart surgery and add many more years to her life. She is a young girl who can achieve a lot in her life with your help.

Samreen, a 17-year-old resident of Skardu, has been suffering from breathlessness and cyanosis since she was born. Her parents took her to the hospital when she was two years old. Upon consultation and after running some diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed her with complex heart conditions, including Unientricular Heart, Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), and Pulmonary Stenosis (PS). On the advice of her cardiologist, she underwent open-heart surgery with Bilateral CP Shunt.

After going through such a major operation her condition improved for subsequent surgeries. Now, she has been advised to undergo angiography and redo open-heart surgery for the FONTAN procedure. Due to financial constraints, her family cannot pay for the treatment she needs. Her father is the sole earner in the family and they don’t have any other source of income. With a meager monthly income of PKR 15,000, he barely manages to support his family of six and make ends meet.

Her mother expressed her distress in the following words:

“My daughter’s life has been full of suffering. She has already lost so much of her childhood and youth because of this deadly heart disease. I’m a helpless mother who can’t do anything besides asking you to save her daughter’s failing heart.”

Someone told them about Transparent Hands and we have registered her case. Now, all we need is your support. Support Samreen’s open-heart surgery and make it possible for her to live for many more years.

Samreen Sadiq's Story

Samreen, a 17-year-old resident of Skardu, has been suffering from dyspnea and cyanosis since she was born. Her parents took her to the hospital when she was two years old. After consultation and some diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed her with complex heart conditions, including a univentricular heart, a double outlet right ventricle (DORV), and pulmonary stenosis (PS). On the advice of her cardiologist, she underwent open-heart surgery with a bilateral BD shunt.  After going through such a major operation her condition improved for subsequent surgeries.

She had been advised to undergo angiography and redo open-heart surgery for the FONTAN procedure. Therefore, they reached out to Transparent Hands again for financial assistance. She was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore, where her angiography was performed on 16-08-2022.

The results of Samreen's angiography were promising. The report revealed a univentricular heart with right ventricular morphology, exhibiting good function. The bilateral BD (Bilateral Bidirectional) Glenn shunt, created during the previous surgery, was patented and demonstrated a well-sized confluent branch pulmonary artery (PAs). The findings also indicated that Samreen's pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) was suitable for the subsequent FONTAN procedure.

Despite the medical recommendation for a redo open-heart surgery, Samreen's family made a personal decision not to proceed with this intervention. Nonetheless, she remained under observation and care at the hospital for eight days following the angiography. Throughout her journey, Samreen expressed immense gratitude towards Transparent Hands and all the donors who generously supported her during these challenging times. Their financial assistance played a significant role in enabling her to access vital medical interventions, bringing her closer to a healthier and brighter future.
