Taqwa Bibi's Story
Three-year-old Taqwa Khan, a young girl from Buner, has been living in a world of silence since the day she was born. Taqwa’s parents, concerned about their daughter’s inability to hear, sought medical advice when she turned one. After a series of tests, it was determined that Taqwa was experiencing sensorineural hearing loss, a condition that prevents her from perceiving sound. The doctors recommended a life-transforming solution for Taqwa: cochlear implant surgery.
A cochlear implant is a groundbreaking device that can restore hearing in individuals like Taqwa. This remarkable technology consists of two components: an internal component that is surgically implanted near the ear, and an external component that is fitted a few weeks after the surgery. With a cochlear implant, Taqwa would have the opportunity to experience a world filled with the beauty of sound.
Taqwa’s family lives in a modest household, sharing their home with ten other family members. Her father, a hardworking labourer, earns a monthly income of only PKR 18,000. Despite his unwavering efforts, he is unable to bear the financial burden of the costly cochlear implant surgery. Taqwa’s father expressed his heartfelt plea, saying, “Your compassionate support has the power to change my daughter’s life. With the gift of hearing, Taqwa can overcome communication barriers and forge meaningful connections, granting her endless possibilities.”
Through word of mouth, Taqwa’s parents learned about Transparent Hands.
