Washma Noor's Story
Washma Noor, a 4-year-old girl from Dera Ismail Khan, has been suffering from hearing loss since birth. Her parents discovered her condition when she turned one year old, and they took her to the nearest hospital for a diagnosis. After conducting various diagnostic tests, the doctor recommended a cochlear implant as a solution for Washma’s hearing loss.
Living in a small, one-room house in a village near Dera Ismail Khan, Washma resides with her parents and two siblings. Her father works as a daily wager, earning only 30,000 PKR per month. He is the sole breadwinner of the family, and their financial situation is extremely challenging. Despite working hard to provide for the family’s basic needs, such as school fees, groceries, daily expenses, and utility bills, Washma’s father cannot afford the expenses associated with her cochlear implant surgery.
Washma’s father said it in a depressed tone:
“I appeal to your kind hearts and generosity to help us give Washma the chance to hear and experience the world around her. Your support will mean the world to our family and bring immeasurable joy to Washma’s life.”

Washma Noor, a 4-year-old girl from Dera Ismail Khan, has been grappling with hearing loss since birth. Her parents' concern grew when they noticed the condition during her first year. Seeking medical attention, they visited the nearest hospital, where extensive tests revealed the need for a cochlear implant to address Washma's hearing loss.
Washma's father, however, faced a daunting challenge – the financial burden of the necessary surgery was beyond his means. Determined to provide their daughter the gift of sound, the family turned to Transparent Hands, a beacon of hope for those in need of life-changing medical interventions.
With the generous support of donors, Washma's case was swiftly taken up, and she was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Karachi. On May 9, 2024, under the skilled hands of Dr. Maqbool, the internal component of the cochlear implant was expertly installed. After a brief recovery period of just two days, Washma was discharged, embarking on her transformative journey.
In the weeks that followed, the external component of the cochlear implant was also fixed, and Washma began a series of speech therapy sessions. With each passing day, her ability to respond to voices and engage with her surroundings blossomed, bringing immense joy to her family.
Today, Washma's laughter and newfound ability to communicate have transformed the dynamics of her household. The once-silent world she inhabited has been replaced by the melodic sounds of her own voice, the tender words of her parents, and the playful banter with her siblings. This success story not only celebrates Washma's triumph but also stands as a testament to the power of compassion and the life-changing impact of donor support.
