Umaima Atif Awaits Cochlear Implant Surgery
Umaima Atif's Story
Umaima Atif, a 2-year-old girl from Sheikhupura, has been living in a world of silence since birth. Her parents noticed her unresponsiveness to sounds and took her to a nearby doctor. After a thorough evaluation, the audiologist diagnosed her with Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL). It is a condition, in which damage occurs to the inner structure of the ear. The condition is also impacting her cognitive development. The doctor has recommended cochlear implant surgery to restore her hearing. The cochlear implant is a device that stimulates the cochlear nerve and enables a person to hear.
Umaima’s parents long to see their daughter hear the laughter of her loved ones and respond to voices. The cochlear implant will ultimately help her to get rid of the world of silence and isolation. The overall cost of the surgery looms heavily over Umaima’s parents. Living in the 2-marla rented brick house, they struggle to make ends meet. Her father, the only breadwinner in the entire family, brings in PKR 30,000 per month. With the house rent amounting to PKR 6000 and utility bills totaling PKR 3000, they can’t afford the expensive cost of a cochlear implant device.
In this time of distress, Umaima’s family contacted Transparent Hands.
Umaima’s parents said in despair:
“Every parent wishes to hear their child’s first words. We want Umaima to hear us and respond to the sounds around her. It’s our humble appeal to please help our only daughter to get this cochlear implant device.”
Due to their financial hardships, Umaima’s family cannot afford the cost of the surgery. Recognizing the need for the surgery, Transparent Hands has registered Umaima’s case and aims to help her by giving her the gift of hearing. Your contributions will transform her life and enable her to navigate her surroundings.
Let’s unite in our mission to support her to overcome this congenital deafness and enjoy the world of sounds.
