Abdul Rehman awaits ASD Closure. Abdul Rehman, aged seven, a resident of Sheikhupura has been suffering from Tachycardia and recurrent fever since birth. Tachycardia refers to a heart rate that’s too fast.
Abdul Rehman was suffering from an ear infection and high grade fever. His parents took him to the hospital. It was after a thorough checkup that the doctor provided him medication for the ear infection. When the doctor monitored his heart rate he found it to be fast. The doctor then advised Abdul Rehman to have an Echocardiogram. An echocardiogram, or “echo”, is a scan used to look at the heart and nearby blood vessels. When the results came, he was found to have atrial septal defect (ASD). ASD is a hole in the heart that allows blood to pass from the left to the right side of the heart. To correct this defect, the doctor has advised open heart surgery for ASD closure to Abdul Rehman.
As Abdul Rehman awaits ASD Closure, his parents are failing to afford the cost of the surgery. His father was a daily wage worker but unfortunately his elbow was fractured one month ago. The household is running on family support. Abdul Rehman’s father told us that:
“I was not earning much before my elbow fracture. But after the incident, I can’t even put food on my table for my family. We are dependent on our relatives. In these conditions, how can I afford my son’s surgery. I hope Transparent Hands will do something for us. ”

Abdul Rehman 's Story
Abdul Rehman, a seven-year-old resident of Sheikhupura, has been suffering from Tachycardia, fever and swelling in his legs since birth. Upon consultation and work up, he was diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect. The doctor advised Rehman to undergo Closure of Atrial Septal Defect surgery. Hence he was sent to University of Lahore Teaching Hospital for his procedure. His surgery was done by Dr. Faiz Rasool on 16-11-2021 with the help of Pakistan Children Heart’s Foundation. At the time of surgery, he was found to have a PDA defect, which was ligated at the same time. His surgery was a success, he was discharged after nine days of hospital stay in satisfactory condition. He has now healed and is looking forward to a bright future ahead.
