Umar Zadi's Story

Umar Zadi, a 56-year-old woman from Matiari, has been living with a painful lump in her left breast for the past three years. As the discomfort persisted and the lump became a growing source of concern, she visited the hospital for a thorough evaluation. After clinical examination and the necessary laboratory investigations, the doctor diagnosed her with a left breast fibroadenoma. A fibroadenoma is a non-cancerous breast tumor that can cause pain, discomfort, and anxiety, especially when it increases in size or becomes symptomatic. To remove the lump and relieve her symptoms, the doctor has recommended excisional surgery under general anesthesia (GA). Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery is beyond her family’s financial means. Without the recommended surgery, Umar Zadi’s condition may continue to worsen. The lump can increase in size, and it may develop into cancer. Timely surgery is important to relieve her symptoms and prevent further complications.

Umar Zadi is a widow and belongs to a flood-affected family that lost their home. Since then, she and her family have been living in a temporary hut. Her only son is the sole earning member of the household and works at a private petrol pump in Karachi, earning just PKR 30,000 per month. His income supports seven family members, including Umar Zadi and her five other children. With such limited financial resources, the family is unable to afford the cost of her surgery.

“Living with this pain for so many years has been very difficult. My son’s modest income is barely enough to cover the basic household needs. This surgery will change my life. Kindly help me.”
