Hoor Un Nisa's Story

Hoor un Nisa, 54-year-old resident of Karachi, has been suffering from Osteoarthritis involving both knees. Osteoarthritis is a condition that causes the cartilage in the knee joint to thin out. Consequently, the surfaces of the joint become roughened and create friction. As a result, the movement becomes painful, and the joint becomes stiff. She is not able to get up or walk due to this condition. Moreover, the pain has become unbearable for her.  

To treat this, the orthopedic surgeon has advised Hoor to undergo a bilateral total knee replacement surgery. It is a surgical procedure to replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee joint to relieve pain and disability. While the knee replacement seems like an easy solution to all of Hoor’s problems, it is certainly not an affordable solution for her.

Unfortunately, Hoor’s family cannot afford the hefty cost of a Knee Replacement surgery. The entire family’s income is just PKR 18,000 per month. In this income, they cannot afford the hefty cost of a Knee Replacement surgery. Her son told us:

“We hardly manage to pay for the basic necessities with this meager monthly income. There’s no way for us to pay for my mother’s surgery without help from someone. Whoever is reading this, please help us. My mother has been suffering for ten years. She cannot take it anymore.”
