Muhammad Amar's Story

6-year-old Muhammad Amar was suffering from sensorineural hearing loss since birth. At age one, his mother presumed that her son is suffering from hearing loss and had difficulty responding when they call out his name.
Worrisome, Muhammad Amar’s parents took him to a government hospital where he was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss. ENT specialists advised him to get a cochlear implant placed in his ear which is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf. They said that this is the only way for the little boy to re-gain his hearing ability.
A cochlear implant is an expensive procedure that Amar’s father cannot afford no matter what. Amar’s father is also a patient himself but still manages to earn 15,000 PKR a month. He has family of seven to support with an income below the minimum wage bracket. He supports his mother, wife and three more kids. One of his daughters also suffers from the same condition as her brother.
It is impossible for him to even manage the day-to-day expenses of his family let alone pay for a cochlear implant. Recently, his father came to know of Transparent Hands and registered his case with us.

Muhammad Amar's Story
Six-year-old Amar, a resident of Mardan, was born without the ability to hear. His parents noticed this and took him to the hospital for a consultation when he was a year old. After a thorough evaluation and some diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed him with sensorineural hearing loss. The doctor advised him to undergo cochlear implant surgery. Unfortunately, his family was not in a stable financial situation to pay for the surgery. They contacted Transparent Hands for financial assistance.
Amar was admitted to the National Hospital and Medical Center, Lahore, where Dr. Naveed skillfully performed the cochlear implant surgery on 20-05-2023. The doctor was able to fix the cochlear implant's internal component, and the procedure was successful. He was discharged from the hospital the next day. However, before his hearing was fully recovered, he still had a long way to go. After a few weeks, he visited the hospital again, where the cochlear implant's external component was fixed, enabling him to experience the world of sound.
The doctor advised him to seek consultation from professional speech therapists to help him improve his language and communication abilities. Through speech therapy, he will be able to appreciate language in all its richness and nuance. His cochlear implant serves as a gateway to the auditory world, allowing him to hear for the first time and paving the way to better education, more meaningful relationships, and a more fulfilling life. The implant allows him to take an active role in conversations, making him feel more at home in social gatherings. He can form meaningful relationships and share laughter and shared moments with his family, friends, and peers.
