Hira Abdul Sami's Story

Hira Abdul Sami, a 32-year-old woman from Hyderabad, has been living with pain in the upper right side of her abdomen for the past five years. Eating fatty meals often leaves her with discomfort and indigestion, making it difficult to manage her daily responsibilities and care for her family. Recently, she consulted a doctor and underwent the necessary clinical examinations and laboratory investigations. The doctor diagnosed her with cholelithiasis, a condition in which hardened deposits, commonly known as gallstones, form inside the gallbladder. To treat her condition and prevent further complications, the doctor advised Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. Sadly, the cost of the surgery is beyond her family’s financial capacity. Without the recommended surgery, Hira may continue to experience frequent episodes of abdominal pain and digestive discomfort. Gallstones can also lead to inflammation of the gallbladder, blockage of the bile ducts, infection, and pancreatitis.

Hira is a housewife and lives with her husband and two children in a rented home in Hyderabad. Her husband, Abdul Sami Danish, holds a private job and is the only earning member of the family. He earns just PKR 28,000 per month, out of which PKR 15,000 is spent on house rent and PKR 1,000 on utility bills. After covering these essential expenses and providing for a family of four, they are left with very little to manage any healthcare costs. Affording to pay for Hira’s surgery is beyond their means.

Hira shared her thoughts with hope:
