They took him to the local hospital for tests, where he was diagnosed with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. The doctors recommended cochlear implant surgery as the solution. A cochlear implant is a small electronic device that stimulates the cochlear nerve responsible for hearing. It consists of external and internal components, with the external part placed behind the ear to process sounds captured by a microphone and transmit them to the internal part of the implant.
Living in a modest home with his parents, Muhammad Essa’s father earns a monthly income of only PKR 15,000 with no additional sources of revenue. Such limited means make it impossible for him to bear the expenses of the required surgery. In his distress, Muhammad Essa’s father shares his fears:

Muhammad Essa Khattak’s world was cloaked in silence, his young life impacted by congenital hearing loss. His inability to respond to sounds led to the hope of a solution through cochlear implant surgery. The financial strain on his family was alleviated when Transparent Hands stepped in, granting Muhammad Essa the opportunity for this vital surgery at Ali Medical Complex, Islamabad, on 09 Oct 2023. Under the expert care of Dr. Jawwad Ahmed, the internal implant was successfully installed, marking a pivotal moment in Muhammad Essa’s path to hearing restoration.
Muhammad Essa’s journey toward sound is a testament to the transformative impact of compassion and medical innovation.
