Fizza Fatima's Story
Fizza has the brightest smile we have ever seen. But, as we took out our camera to take her pictures, her smile dimmed down to an awkward line. Her mother told us that she cannot hear us. We wish to help Fizza unlock the world of sound and we need your help with that.
Three years old Fizza Fatima was a premature baby. She suffered from TOF, cataract and hernia and hearing loss since birth. Thankfully, all the other defects have been corrected except the hearing loss. At first, her parents were not aware of her condition. Later, when Fizza could not respond to their verbal cues and loud noises, they took her to a hospital. After a thorough check-up, the doctor advised a cochlear implant. But, due to its hefty cost, they were unable to afford it. Therefore, they resorted to implanting a hearing aid device. Unfortunately, the hearing aid device did not prove to be useful.
Now, cochlear implant surgery is the only option for permanent cure. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device that will give Fizza a modified sense of sound.
Unfortunately, Fizza’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of the surgery. His father is the sole earner of the family. He works as a ward boy in a private hospital but hardly earns PKR 20,000 per month. To support the household, Fizza’s mother stitches clothes. With this income, they are still unable to afford Fizza’s cochlear implant surgery. Fizza’s mother told us:
“Ever since Fizza was born, her life has been nothing but a series of unfortunate events. At the age of mere three years, she has undergone the pain of a lifetime. Her pain brings tears to my eyes every time I talk about it.”
After a lot of distress, Fizza’s parents have registered her case with Transparent Hands. We wish to acquaint her with the world of sound as soon as possible. But, we need your help with that. Therefore, we urge you to please donate for Fizza’s cochlear implant and help Fizza unlock the world of sound.

Fizza Fatima's Story
Fizza Fatima, a 3-year-old resident of Lahore, had been suffering from an inability to hear since birth. Her parents considered it a delayed milestone as she had a cleft palate and premature birth. After some struggle and consultations with experienced doctors, Fizza was finally diagnosed with Profound Sensorineural Hearing loss. Her eardrum was blocked, therefore she couldn’t hear and respond to voices. Upon consultation, the ENT surgeon advised a cochlear implant surgery.
Due to her hearing issue, she cannot communicate with other kids and faces challenges while playing with them. Her parents wished to give her the ability to hear but the financial strain of the costly surgery was incredibly challenging for them. Fizza’s father works as an assistant in a hospital ward and her mother makes ends meet by working as a seamstress. Despite their hard work and perseverance, they face financial hardships and cannot pay for her life-altering surgery.
Fizza’s family reached out to Transparent Hands, hoping for support for their daughter's cochlear implant surgery. We registered her case and your contribution made her surgery possible.
On 01-04-2024, her surgery was successfully performed at National Hospital Lahore. Dr. Naveed Aslam skillfully installed the internal component of the cochlear implant device. Just two days later, Fizza was discharged from the hospital. Her journey toward the discovery of sounds started.
Through the boundless generosity of donors, the external component was carefully fitted six weeks after the surgery. Under the supervision of dedicated doctors, she is attending speech therapy sessions to refine her listening and speaking skills.
Fizza’s family described their happiness as follows:
“Our daughter can hear and speak now. The cochlear implant has enabled her to interact with other kids and explore the world without limitations. Thanks to all donors. We can never forget your generosity.”
Fizza is learning new words with wholeheartedness and taking significant steps to polish her communication. The cochlear implant has enriched her life with delightful sounds.
