Karam Hussain's Story
At only three years of age, Karam Hussain from Muzaffargarh has already experienced challenges that no child should have to face. Since birth, he has experienced shortness of breath and chest discomfort. His condition has limited his ability to enjoy the precious moments of his childhood. Recently, his parents took him to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After undergoing a detailed evaluation, he was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), and an Interventricular Septal Defect. These are complex congenital heart conditions that interfere with the heart’s ability to circulate oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. To improve his heart function, the doctor has advised open-heart surgery (Senning procedure). Without this surgery, his condition will continue to deteriorate, putting his life at risk. The doctor warned that delaying the procedure may lead to heart failure or even sudden complications that can be fatal.
Karam lives with his parents and three siblings in a relative’s house in Muzaffargarh. His father is the only earning member of the family and works as a laborer, earning just PKR 20,000 per month. With this modest income, the family struggles to manage PKR 1,000 for educational expenses and PKR 1,500 for utility bills, along with other daily household needs. Supporting a family of six on such limited resources has made it impossible for them to afford the cost of Karam’s life-changing heart surgery.
Karam’s mother expressed her plea as follows:
“Karam has been living with a serious heart condition, and every day brings new worries for him. I can’t see him in this condition anymore. My husband works to the point of exhaustion, but the cost of this surgery is beyond his means. Be generous and contribute to my son’s surgery.”
