Fariha Shaukat's Story

Fariha Shaukat, a 12-year-old girl from Rawalpindi, has been experiencing immense health challenges since birth. Activities like playing with her friends or even walking a short distance leave her breathless and cause her skin to turn blue. During her consultation with a doctor, she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricular Septal Defect. With the support of Transparent Hands, her first Modified BT shunt surgery was done in 2017 to build up and prepare her for the subsequent surgery. On a recent follow-up visit, her doctor has advised her to undergo CT Angiography and Rastelli procedure. However, the surgical cost is out of her family’s financial capacity.

Without surgery, Fariha’s condition will worsen, leading to severe breathing difficulties and potential heart failure. Her ability to grow and engage in daily activities will remain limited. Timely intervention is necessary to save her life.

Fariha lives in a modest house with her parents and three siblings. Her father, the sole provider for the family, works as an electrician and earns just PKR 35,000 per month. This income is insufficient to cover their utility bills along with food expenses. Fariha’s parents fear for her future as she grows, but her heart condition stands in the way of a healthy and fulfilling life. Despite their best efforts, they are left with no option but to seek help from Transparent Hands.
