 Umm-e-Khadija Mumtaz's Story

Umm-e-Khadija awaits cochlear implant surgery. 6-year-old Umm-e-Khadija, a resident of Faisalabad, was suffering from sensorineural hearing loss since birth. Her parents were unaware of her condition for the first year after her birth. When they realized their daughter’s disability, they took her to the hospital. Upon medical evaluation she was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss. The doctors believed a cochlear implant to be the only way for the little girl to regain her hearing ability. The ENT specialist therefore advised her to get a cochlear implant placed in her ear. A cochlear implant is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf.

Umm-e-Khadija awaits cochlear implant surgery. A cochlear implant is an expensive procedure that Umm-e-Khadija’s father cannot afford. He earns a mere income of PKR. 20,000. He has a family of five to support with an income below the minimum wage bracket. In these expensive times, it is very difficult for him to afford this surgery.

“My daughter has been suffering from this disability since her birth, her brothers and sisters call her but she can’t listen. When we call her she does not respond. This is the most heart-aching thing for us. To see our small child unacquainted from the voices of her family.”

It is impossible for Umm-e-Khadija’s father to even manage the day-to-day expenses of his family let alone pay for a cochlear implant. Recently, her father came to know of Transparent Hands and registered her case with us.

Your donations can help Umm-e-Khadija hear the voices of her family. This 6-year-old deserves to get her hearing ability back. Umm-e-Khadija awaits cochlear implant surgery. Please contribute whatever you can and donate to Umm-e-Habiba for her cochlear implant surgery.
