Shayan Haider's Story

Shayan Haider, a 3-year-old boy from Bhakkar, has been struggling with blurred vision in both eyes since birth. This condition makes it difficult for him to observe his surroundings and carry out daily activities like other children of his age. His parents took him to the hospital for a detailed eye evaluation, where doctors diagnosed him with congenital cataract. His right eye has already been successfully operated on with an intraocular lens (IOL), and his surgery was done through Transparent Hands in February 2026. In his left eye, lens matter aspiration has already been performed. Now, he has been diagnosed with left-eye Aphakia, meaning the natural lens is absent. He has therefore been advised to undergo left-sided secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Without the recommended surgery, Shayan’s vision may continue to deteriorate. Untreated aphakia can lead to poor visual development, amblyopia, reduced depth perception, and permanent vision impairment. Early treatment is essential during childhood for proper development of eyesight.

Shayan’s father works as a daily wage labourer and earns only PKR 20,000 per month. He is the sole earning member of a family of eight, including Shayan and his five siblings. The family’s modest income is spent on meeting basic household needs, along with monthly educational expenses of PKR 2,000 and utility bills amounting to PKR 2,000. With so many responsibilities, affording the cost of Shayan’s eye surgery is beyond their means.

Shayan’s father shared his heartfelt plea as follows:

“Watching my son struggle to see breaks my heart. His right eye surgery gave us hope, and now he needs treatment for his left eye as well. I work hard every day to provide for my family, but my income is only enough to cover our basic needs. Kindly help my son receive this surgery so he can see the world more clearly.”
