Sughra Sajan's Story

For four years, Sughra Sajan, a 26-year-old woman from Badin, Sindh, lived with a growing lump at the front of her neck. As time passed, the condition began affecting her health and daily routine. Along with physical discomfort, she experienced symptoms related to hyperthyroidism that made it difficult to complete household chores and care for her five children. Determined to find the cause of her symptoms, Sughra visited a local hospital for an evaluation. Following a detailed examination and diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed her with Toxic Nodule of Thyroid, a condition in which a thyroid nodule produces excessive thyroid hormones. Her doctor prescribed medicines and recommended thyroid lobectomy to remove the affected portion of the thyroid gland.

Sughra’s family was already facing severe financial challenges. She is a housewife, while her husband works as a laborer and earns only PKR 18,000 per month. The family lives in a small hut and struggles to meet their basic needs. Supporting five children, including three who are attending a government school, leaves little room for unexpected expenses. As a result, affording the surgery was beyond their financial capacity. Living with the condition became increasingly difficult. During this time of need, Sughra contacted Transparent Hands and asked for help. Moved by her plea, we registered her case.

On May 11, 2026, Sughra was admitted to the Isra University Welfare Hospital in Hyderabad. Her thyroid lobectomy was successfully performed by Dr. Aftab Ahmed Soomro on May 12, 2026. The procedure removed the affected part of her thyroid gland. Following careful post-operative monitoring, she was discharged in stable condition on May 13, 2026.

Looking back on the difficult years she spent battling with this condition, Sughra shared:

“There were days when I felt exhausted and worried about my health, but I continued caring for my children despite the discomfort. We never had the resources to arrange this treatment. Today, I feel relieved and optimistic about the future. Thank you for helping me receive this much-needed surgery.”

The surgery has given Sughra a new beginning free from the discomfort she experienced for years.

Her family will always remember your support and the hope it brought during a difficult period of their lives.
