You Empowered Hammad Ali With the Ability to Hear

Hammad Ali's Story

Hammad Ali, a 2-year-old boy from Naushahro Feroze, Sindh, had been suffering from the inability to hear since birth. His parents noticed that Hammad was not responding to voices like other kids of his age. Concerned about his condition, they took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who after performing a thorough examination diagnosed Hammad with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). It was shocking news for Hammad’s parents and made them extremely worried about his condition. To allow him to hear and respond to voices, the doctor advised cochlear implant surgery as the solution.

Seeing their son hear and experience his surroundings fully was Hammad’s parents’ biggest dream, but their financial constraints became an obstacle on his path toward recovery. Living in a small mud house, the family hardly made ends meet. Hammad’s father is a farmer and has a meager monthly income of PKR 15000. Affording the costly surgery was a distant dream for them. In this dark time, a ray of hope arose when a family member told them about Transparent Hands and they contacted us for help. We listened to their concerns and registered Hammad’s case.

On 25th July 2024, Hammad was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. His parents were filled with a mixture of fear and hope. The surgery took place on 26th July 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed skillfully fitted the internal component of the cochlear implant device. The surgery was a remarkable success and finally, the door to the world of sounds was opened for Hammad.

After receiving post-operative care and medications, Hammad was discharged on 27th August 2024. Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. His journey to recovery and introduction to the world of sounds is ongoing with speech therapy sessions.
