Shamim Bibi's Story

Shamim Bibi, a 60-year-old widow from Mardan, was living with pain and stiffness in both knees. Over time, the discomfort became so intense that she could no longer walk without support. Even standing for a few minutes or moving around her home became exhausting. Daily activities that were once effortless gradually turned into painful challenges, affecting her independence and overall quality of life. Concerned about her worsening condition, Shamim visited a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation. After an X-ray and the necessary laboratory tests, the doctor diagnosed her with bilateral knee osteoarthritis. This condition develops when the protective cartilage in the knee joints gradually wears away, causing the bones to rub against each other. Since her left knee had deteriorated more than the right one, the doctor recommended a left-sided Total Knee Replacement (TKR) to relieve her pain and restore her mobility. For Shamim and her family, affording the cost of the surgery was not possible.

She lives in a modest rented house with her five children. Her two sons are daily wage laborers and together earn approximately PKR 40,000 per month. Their limited income is spent on house rent, food, utility bills, and the daily needs of the entire family, leaving no room for expensive treatments. With no savings to cover the cost of surgery, Shamim turned to Transparent Hands for help. After reviewing her medical reports and financial circumstances, Transparent Hands registered her case for treatment.

On May 4, 2026, Shamim was admitted to the Zia Darman Hospital in Mardan. Her left-sided Total Knee Replacement was successfully performed by Dr. Aimen Zia. The damaged knee joint was replaced with an artificial implant to reduce pain and improve movement. Following post-operative care, she was discharged in stable condition on May 6, 2026.

Expressing her gratitude, Shamim shared:

“For many months, every step I took was filled with pain, and I feared I would never walk comfortably again. We could not afford the surgery that could change my life. Your kindness has given me hope, relief, and the chance to regain my independence. I will always remain deeply grateful for your generous support.”

Today, Shamim is recovering well and looking forward to regaining her independence. This surgery has brought new hope to her life and relief to her family.

She and her family will always remember your contribution.
