You Helped Manha Hear for the First Time

Manha Mati Ullah's Story

Manha Mati Ullah, a 3-year-old girl from Karachi, had been living in a world of silence since birth. While other children of her age were beginning to speak and engage with the world around them, Manha could not respond to voices or sounds. Determined to find answers, her parents took her to a nearby hospital. After a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed her with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. The only way to help Manha hear and eventually learn to speak was through cochlear implant surgery. However, the cost of the cochlear implant surgery was far beyond the family’s financial capacity.

Manha lived in a small rented home in Karachi with her parents and three school-going siblings. Her father worked for a private company and was the only earner in the household. With his modest income, the family could barely meet daily living expenses. Affording the expensive cochlear implant surgery was out of their reach. Feeling helpless but not ready to give up on their daughter, Manha’s parents reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for help. After learning about their situation, we promptly registered Manha’s case.

On February 25, 2025, Manha was admitted to the National Hospital in Lahore. Dr. Asim successfully performed her cochlear implant surgery. The internal component was placed, and she was kept under observation. After receiving post-operative care, Manha was discharged in stable condition on February 26, 2025.
Manha will return for activation of the external component of the cochlear implant and speech therapy sessions in the coming weeks.

Manha’s mother expressed her emotions with tearful eyes as follows:
