Farhat Joel's Story

Farhat Joel, a 50-year-old woman from Karachi, had been living with pain in the upper right side of her abdomen for the past six months. She frequently experienced nausea and vomiting, particularly after eating oily or fatty meals. As the discomfort became more frequent, it began affecting her daily routine and well-being. Even simple household and work-related responsibilities became difficult as she struggled with recurring digestive problems. Farhat visited a local hospital for an evaluation. After a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed her with cholelithiasis. It is a condition in which hardened deposits, known as gallstones, develop inside the gallbladder. To eliminate the source of her symptoms and prevent complications such as infection, severe inflammation, or blockage of the bile ducts, the doctor recommended laparoscopic cholecystectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder.

Affording the surgery was beyond the family’s financial means. Farhat works at a private organization and earns PKR 15,000 per month, while her husband works as a tailor with a monthly income of approximately PKR 30,000. Together, they earn PKR 45,000, which is used to cover the household’s essential expenses. The family lives in a rented house. They are also supporting their two children, who are studying in college and school. With little left after meeting their everyday expenses, paying for the surgery was not possible. Hoping to overcome this challenge, Farhat contacted Transparent Hands for assistance. After reviewing her medical reports and financial circumstances, her case was registered.

On June 17, 2026, Farhat was admitted to the Altamash General Hospital in Karachi. Her laparoscopic cholecystectomy was successfully performed by Dr. Abdul Waheed. The surgery removed the gallbladder containing the gallstones that had been causing her pain and digestive problems. After receiving post-operative care and observation, she was discharged in stable condition on June 18, 2026.

Farhat expressed her joy as follows:

“Living with constant pain and digestive problems made every day difficult. I knew the surgery would help me, but we simply could not afford it. Your generosity has given me relief from the pain that affected my daily life. Words cannot express how thankful I am for your support.”

The successful surgery has relieved Farhat’s pain and digestive discomfort, enabling her to return to her daily routine with greater ease.

She and her family extend their heartfelt gratitude for your generosity, which brought comfort and hope back into their lives.
