Meet Ziyam, a brave little boy who lives in Mardan. When he was only a month old, his parents noticed that he had trouble breathing and his skin had a bluish tint. They were worried and took him to the local hospital, where the doctor discovered that Ziyam had a heart problem called transposition of the great arteries (TGA) and an interventricular septum (IVS). It made it hard for his heart to work properly.

Ziyam’s parents didn’t give up hope. When he was two months old, a heart surgeon performed a special procedure called a balloon atrial septostomy to help improve the blood flow to his heart. It provided some relief, but unfortunately, the symptoms returned. The doctor then suggested another procedure called a Senning procedure, which could fix the problem with Ziyam’s heart. However, Ziyam’s father couldn’t afford the cost of the surgery, and it was a difficult time for their family.

That’s when they reached out to Transparent Hands, an organization that helps families in need of medical assistance. They registered Ziyam’s case and asked for help. Finally, on the 27th of February 2023, Ziyam was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore, where the talented Dr. Asim performed the Senning procedure. The surgery was a success, and after staying in the hospital for seven days, Ziyam was allowed to go home.
