Ahmed Ali Mardan's Story

Ahmed Ali Mardan, a 1-year-old boy from Badin, Sindh, has been living in a silent world since birth. Ahmed has never heard his mother’s voice or the sound of laughter. His parents noticed his unresponsiveness to sounds when he couldn’t react to loud noises as a baby. They took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. The doctor conducted some medical tests and diagnosed Ahmed with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and recommended cochlear implant surgery as his only chance to hear and develop speech. However, the surgical cost is beyond his family’s financial reach.

Due to the inability to hear, his cognitive and emotional development has been affected. The sooner he receives the cochlear implant, the better his chances of speech and language development, which are important at his age. If he doesn’t undergo the surgery on time, he might not be able to develop the ability to hear and speak.

Ahmed lives in a two-room rented house with his parents and one sibling. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, is a daily wage laborer and earns just PKR 20,000 per month. He hardly manages to pay PKR 3000 for house rent, PKR 1000 per month for utility bills, and other living expenses. Due to their financial constraints, they can’t afford Ahmed’s much-needed surgery. During this time of need, Ahmed’s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for help.

Ahmed’s parents said in despair:

“It breaks our hearts when we call his name and he doesn’t turn. We just want him to have a normal life, to hear us, to learn to speak and to play with other children. But we cannot afford the surgery on our own. Please help us.”

With the cochlear implant surgery, Ahmed can learn to speak, attend school, and engage with the world around him—something every child deserves.

You have the power to change Ahmed’s life forever. Your contributions can bring the gift of hearing to a little boy who is waiting to experience sound for the first time. Please donate today and give Ahmed the future he deserves.

Ahmed Ali Mardan's Story

Ahmed Ali Mardan, a one-year-old innocent boy from Badin, had lived in a silent world since birth. He was unable to hear his parents’ comforting voices. He never turned his head when they called his name and didn’t respond to the sounds around him. Concerned about his condition, his parents took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After a comprehensive examination and evaluation, the doctor diagnosed Ahmed with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. To enable him to hear and develop speech, the doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery. However, the surgical cost was overwhelming for Ahmed’s family.

Ahmed lived in a small rented house with his parents and one sibling. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked as a daily wage laborer and earned just PKR 20,000 per month. With no savings and struggling to manage even their household expenses, his parents couldn’t afford the high cost of the cochlear implant surgery. His parents were heartbroken, knowing their son’s future depended on a surgery they couldn’t afford. During this time of need, Ahmed’s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for help. After reviewing Ahmed’s case, we took up his case.

On 29th August 2024, Ahmed was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on 30th August 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed skillfully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant and gave Ahmed a new lease on life. After receiving post-operative care and critical monitoring, Ahmed was discharged in satisfactory condition on 31st August 2024.

The external component of the cochlear implant was installed six weeks after the surgery. Ahmed now attends speech therapy sessions, which is another milestone in his successful recovery. Ahmed’s parents expressed their emotions as follows:

“We cannot express the joy we feel. Seeing Ahmed react to our voices melts our hearts with happiness. We are forever grateful to those who made this possible.”

Ahmed’s surgery was made possible just because of your generosity. Your support has given Ahmed a life filled with sounds. His family is grateful for your continued support in changing Ahmed’s life and offering him new hope.
