Farwa Ishfaq's Story

“My daughter cannot manage herself as she is not mentally stable. It makes me worried to think who will look after her, in case something happens to me.” – Farwa’s mother.

Farwa is a 20 years old girl who was born mentally disabled. She is completely dependent on her mother for managing her hygiene and other routine tasks. In 2010, she developed kidney stones and underwent Pyelolithotomy at a local trust hospital.

Her mental disability is life long and she cannot handle her menstruation on her own. Her mother is a working lady and she hardly manages to take care of Farwa’s hygiene and other day-to-day requirements. Under these circumstances, with the consent of her mother, doctor has advised her Abdominal Hysterectomy.

Farwa’s father died 5 years ago. Her mother then took the financial responsibility of her family. She works as a waitress in a hospital’s cafe. She has three daughters and two sons. The eldest daughter is married. One daughter and son are studying, while the other son is also mentally retarded just like Farwa. They live in a small rented house.

The surgery that Farwa requires needs significant amount of money which her mother cannot afford. Fortunately, Farwa’s mother learned about Transparent Hands and requested them to fund Farwa’s operation.
