Seventy years old Bakht Zeba has been suffering from Osteoarthritis involving her right hip for the last seven months. Osteoarthritis is a condition that causes the cartilage in the knee joint to thin out. In consequence, the surfaces of the joint become roughened, thus creating friction. As a result, the movement becomes painful, and the joint becomes stiff. Due to this condition, Bakht Zeba has not been able to get up or walk. Moreover, the pain has become unbearable for her.
To treat this condition, the orthopaedic surgeon has advised Bakht Zeba to undergo hip replacement surgery. Hip replacement (total hip arthroplasty) is surgery to replace a worn-out or damaged hip joint. The surgeon replaces the old joint with an artificial prosthetic joint.
Unfortunately, Bakht Zeba cannot afford the hefty cost of hip replacement surgery. Bakht’s husband works as a labourer on daily wages. He hardly manages to make PKR 4000 per month, which is nothing compared to the hefty cost of the hip replacement surgery. Therefore, it has become impossible for them to save up for Bakht’s surgery. She told us:
“I keep thinking that if I had a child, he would take care of me. Alas, we sit here helpless and in pain. Whoever is reading this, I request you to please donate for my surgery and help me get rid of this pain.”

Bakht Zeba's Story
Bakht Zeba, aged 70 years, suffered from intense pain in her right hip joint. She could neither climb stairs nor walk properly. On thorough medical examination, she was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her right hip joint. The doctor advised arthroplasty. For this purpose, Bakht was admitted to Northwest General Hospital and her total hip replacement for the right side was performed by Dr. Khushnood Ali Baz on 10.06.2021. She stayed in the hospital for four days and was discharged in a stable condition. Bakht’s hip joint has healed post-surgery. She feels a significant improvement in her condition.
