Kashaf Iman has been suffering from Hirschsprung disease by birth. It is a congenital disease that is characterized by the absence of particular nerve cells in a segment of the bowel. Consequently, absence of these cells causes the muscles in the bowels to lose their ability to move stool through the intestine (peristalsis). Doctor performed the first surgery (colostomy) when Kashaf was two years of age. The doctor created an artificial stoma on her abdomen. Now, the doctor has advised a pull-through operation. A pull-through procedure is a definitive operation for Hirschsprung disease. It involves the removal of the abnormal segment of bowel. In this operation, the surgeon pulls through the normal bowel and connects it to the anus.
Kashaf’s father is the sole earner of the family. He works at a private firm. His monthly income is PKR 18000. It is barely enough to keep the household running. Therefore, he is in no position to arrange for his daughter’s surgery. With a shaking voice he said to us:
“I love my daughter so much. It kills me to see her in pain every day and not being able to do anything about it. I feel so helpless that I am unable to sleep most of the time. Please donate for my daughter’s operation. Consider it a father’s request.”

Kashaf Iman's Story
Kashaf Iman, aged 3 years, a resident of Kasur was diagnosed to have been suffering from Hirschsprung’s Disease since birth. On the second day of her life, she underwent colostomy for intestinal obstruction. The doctor advised her to undergo Duhamel Pull Through procedure. For this purpose she was admitted to Akram Medical Complex and her pull-through procedure was performed by Dr. M. Bilal Mirza on 02.04.2021 in which the diseased section of her intestine was removed and the healthy portion was pulled down to the anus. She stayed in the hospital for eight days and was discharged in a stable condition.
