Muhammad Nasir 's Story
Muhammad Nasir, aged 7 years is a resident of Lahore. Muhammad Nasir was born with Anorectal malformation (ARM). It is a condition characterised by the maldevelopment of the rectum and the anus. Symptoms may include absence of the first stool within 24 to 48 hours after birth, no anal opening, anal opening and swollen belly. In Muhammad Arham’s case, the anal passage was absent since birth and a Colostomy stoma was immediately made to assist him temporarily with stool passage. Few months ago, in February 2021, with the assistance of Transparent Hands he underwent posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) that is a type of pull-through procedure which surgically creates the child’s anus within the sphincter muscle. He now requires colostomy reversal. Muhammad Nasir’s grandmother narrates their painful journey in the following manner:
“Muhammad Nasir, my beloved grandson is a gift of God. Both of his parents have passed away. Ever since his birth we have been circling the hospitals for routine and emergency check-ups. I am working as a house maid, and I earn only PKR. 3,000 per month. In this meagre amount of salary it is almost impossible for me to afford treatment for my grandson. Muhammad Nasir 's Story
Muhammad Nasir from Sialkot, aged seven years, was suffering from ARM since birth. Within the next couple of days after his birth, a colostomy was performed and a stoma was placed. Few months back he came to Transparent Hands for assistance where his PSARP surgery was conducted to make his back passage. He has significantly healed and the doctor has now advised him to undergo colostomy reversal. For this purpose, Muhammad Nasir was admitted to Akram Medical Complex where his surgery was performed by Dr. Bilal Mirza on 31.07.2021. He stayed in the hospital for seven days and was discharged in a stable condition.
