Muskan Alam's Story

Some of us are not cognizant of the fact, how painful an infection of the throat can prove to be. And the reason is simple, we have not experienced the pain that Muskan Alam has experienced over the span of the last three years or so. Muskan, a 15-year-old girl from Mardan, suffers from the condition of chronic tonsillitis. It refers to a persistent infection of the tonsils. The infectious cycle keeps on repeating, which leads to the formation of crypts in the tonsils. Consequently, foul-smelling spots build in these crypts. We hope that you realized tonsillitis is a little more than a sore throat!

Can Muskan Alam’s condition be treated? Fortunately, there does exist a treatment for her condition called tonsillectomy. Tonsillectomy refers to a surgical procedure in which tonsils are removed. It may sound as if the process is too painful, however, the operation is not likely to cause the patient too much pain. It is a scheduled surgical procedure with a recovery time of less than a couple of days. But most unfortunately, Muskan Alam’s family is going through a financial crisis right now. Hence, affording her tonsillectomy is quite tough for her parents. Her mother says:

“Muskan means smile. But I cannot remember when was the last time, my daughter smiled. Her father left us too soon and now, the onus of supporting this family of seven is on me. I stitch as many clothes as I can, just to save some money for my daughter’s tonsillectomy. But no matter how hard I try, I always fail. If it was not for Transparent Hands, I would have lost all hope already”

Muskan’s mother still has some hope left that her daughter will smile once more once her pain is alleviated. And the onus is on us and you, So, come and join hands with us by donating as much as you can for Muskan Alam’s tonsillectomy!

Muskan Alam's Story

Muskan Alam, 15 years old, suffered from recurrent episodes of fever and throat ache. When the symptoms started appearing too rapidly, her mother took her to the doctor. On complete check-up, she was diagnosed with chronic tonsillitis and the ENT specialist advised surgery for her. Muskan was admitted in Ahmed Medical Complex and her tonsillectomy was performed by Dr. Syed Mudassir Shah on 29.11.2020. Her enlarged tonsils were removed. She stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. Her throat has recovered swiftly.

“The surgery has relieved me of the constant suffocating sensation that I felt in my throat because of the enlarged tonsils. I can also breath more easily now. This is a surreal feeling as I was used to the discomfort.”- Muskan Alam said
