Rouzina Ishfaq's Story

Arguably, there is no bigger blessing than the ability to see, is there? The gift of eye sight is a priceless one, a gift that Rouzina Ishfaq is being deprived of because of cataract. Rouzina, a 20 years old girl from Multan, has been suffering from blurry vision since the age of ten. A decade ago, her father was ignoring it as a casual case of malnutrition. But now, it has been diagnosed properly and Rouzina has been recommended for Phacoemulsification surgery and IOL for the treatment of her left eye on an immediate basis.

Phacoemulsification is a surgical procedure that is performed with the help of ultrasonic energy. The usual practice is to insert the probe via a small incision so that the cloudy lens can be broken into tiny little pieces. Fragments are removed (sucked out) and an intraocular lens (IOL) is placed. All it takes is one hour at most to treat cataracts via a phacoemulsification-IOL. However, apart from being an effective procedure, it is also an expensive procedure.

It is the expensive nature of the procedure that is keeping Rouzina from undergoing the surgery. Rouzina and her family are going through a financial crisis, her words give a true account of how things stand as of now.

“Father and brother can bring 10,000 PKR per month home, at maximum. We are a family of five, living in a 5-Marla house. Every day, the dingy house feels even dingier. Or is it my eyesight that is deceiving me? I can’t tell stuff anymore, it is all too blurry and dizzy for me. I am not sure the pain I am managing right now, I can manage it for too long. But I am also cognizant of the bitter reality that my family just cannot afford my treatment. It is too expensive”-Rouzina Ishfaq

This rather bitter account from Rouzina tells you one thing quite clearly. She needs immediate help. So, without wasting any further time, we are going to ask you to donate for Rouzina Ishfaq’s eye surgery NOW!
