Donate for Shamshad’s Cochlear Implant
Shamshad Ali's Story
Before you dive into Shamshad Ali’s tale of woes, please know that you can help him. Your donation, however small it may be, will help Shamshad hear the sound of his kids again. Therefore, we request you to please donate for Shamshad’s cochlear implant as much as you can.
Shamshad Ali is fifty years of age. Ever since Shamshad Ali was a kid, he complained about an unusual fluid coming out of his ears. This affected his ability to hear as well. Upon consultation, the doctors prescribed him medicines to control the symptoms. The medicines worked for a while but unfortunately, his hearing ability kept declining. Now, Shamshad Ali is at a point of complete deafness. He cannot hear anything. Due to his hearing disability, he has lost his job as well. Shamshad suffers from post-lingual deafness. Post-lingual deafness is deafness that develops after the acquisition of speech and language. Therefore, he can speak fluently but he cannot hear any sound.
To treat this condition, the doctors advised him to undergo cochlear implant surgery. A Cochlear Implant is a surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device that will give Shamshad a modified sense of sound.
While a cochlear implant is the only solution that will help Shamshad regain his sense of sound, there is no denying that it is an incredibly expensive procedure. Due to his unemployment, he is unable to bear the expenses of his surgery. Shamshad’s wife told us:
“Even since my husband lost his sense of sound, it seems that he has escaped this world. He is unable to communicate and pay attention to his kids. Please help him.”
After years of distress, Shamshad Ali found his way to Transparent Hands. After due verification, we have registered his case with us. We hope to get him able and healthy as soon as possible. But, it won’t be possible without your help. Therefore, we request you to please donate for Shamshad’s cochlear implant as much as you can.
Please Note: In certain situations, we proceed with the patient's surgery/medical procedure despite incomplete funding displayed on the website. Following the surgery/medical procedure, we persist in collecting funds and maintain the campaign on the website until funding is secured in full. Hospitals have granted us a grace period for bill payment.

Shamshad Ali's Story
Shamshad Ali, a 50-year-old man from Gujranwala, experienced a fluid discharge from his ears as a child and his ability to hear declined. He received symptomatic treatment for the condition. Over time, his condition became worse and he completely lost his ability to hear. Upon consultation with an audiologist, Shamshad was diagnosed with post-lingual deafness, a type of hearing loss that occurs after a person has acquired speech and language. The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery to restore his hearing. However, the overwhelming cost of the surgery was beyond his financial reach.
Performing everyday tasks became challenging for Shamshad, as his hearing loss reduced his ability to respond to sounds and negatively affected his independence and quality of life. He lives in a modest house with his wife and four children. Shamshad, the sole breadwinner in the family, works in a general store and earns just PKR 13000 monthly. With four children to support, covering the utility bills and living expenses was challenging for him, and Shamshad was hardly making ends meet.
During this challenging time, Shamshad’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and we registered his case.
The day of surgery arrived. On 5th April 2024, Shamshad was admitted to Evercare Hospital Lahore. He was taken to the Operation Theatre and Dr. Maqbool Ahmed performed the procedure. During the operation, it was identified that he had unusual adhesions in his middle ear cavity due to an ongoing infection. So, his cochlear implant surgery could not proceed. For this reason, the procedure was abandoned. He stayed for two days in the hospital and received postoperative care and medications. He was discharged on medications and regular follow-ups.
Your donations were used for the:
-ENT Surgery
- Related Medications
- His Hospital stays
- Follow-ups after the surgery
We are thankful to all those who supported Shamshad in this time of need.
