Zahra Fatima's Story

Zahra Fatima, aged 2.5 years, had a cheerful happy-go-lucky attitude since she was born. The entire house echoed with her laughter. Her mother felt very blessed on her birth.

However, one day, as Zahra’s mother was bathing her, she noticed a lump in her left groin region. She got very worried and took her to a local doctor for examination. On thorough investigation, it was revealed that Zahra had an inguinal hernia. This condition basically refers to a protrusion of the abdominal wall through a weakened area in the inguinal region.

Since Zahra pointed to this area and cried a few times, her mother knew that the lump was painful for her. The treating surgeon advised herniotomy. This procedure would help surgically remove the protruded hernial sac.

Now, the problem at hand is that Zahra’s mother did want surgical removal of her hernia but she did not have the budget to finance her surgery. The entire situation got very stressful for her. This is because Zahra’s father passed away some time ago and now the family is dependent on her grandfather. Their monthly allowance is only PKR 10,000.

Then, on a routine visit to the hospital, the nurse told Zahra’s mother about Transparent Hands and our organizational objective of conducting free good quality surgeries for the underprivileged. This piece of information came as great news for her. She immediately contacted our staff and got her daughter registered. This is what she had to say:

“These kind people have agreed to help my daughter. I am so grateful. The thought of asking for a loan had stolen my nighttime sleep. I am so glad that there is no need for that now.”
