Shumaila Bibi is a 23 years old girl who lives in a small village in Lodhran with her mother and brother. Her brother is married and has 5 children. He is the sole earner of the family and hardly manages to earn around 5,000 rupees a month. In such meager income, this family is struggling to even manage two times meal. Shumaila Bibi wants to work and support her family but her heart condition is not allowing her to even walk for a few miles.

Shumaila Bibi is a patient of Large VSD (holes in heart and abnormal heart connection) since birth. She has lived her entire life with this heart defect. She has been taking free medicines from a local hospital but now even medicines are not affecting anymore on her health. She is experiencing difficulty in breathing, severe chest pain, weakness and cyanosis (her skin turns blue). Her doctor told her to undergo surgery as soon as possible otherwise her life will be at risk. Her family cannot even afford to pay for her medicines let alone surgical procedure. They contacted many local hospitals for free surgical treatment but they are putting her on waiting list. Shumaila Bibi cannot wait anymore due to her deteriorating health. She is bedridden most of the time and unable to even perform small household chores. Luckily, somebody told her brother about Transparent Hands and he immediately brought her here.

Shumaila Bibi's Story

Shumaila Bibi 23 years old lady had Cyanosis and dyspnoea on exertion since birth. She was diagnosed with complex congenital heart disease- Transposition of great arteries, univentricular heart and severe PS. She was advised open heart surgery- CP shunt to improve her circulation. Her surgery was done in Ittefaq Hospital through Pakistan Children Heart Foundation on 16-11-18 by Dr Salman A Shah. She had good post op recovery and was discharged with stable vitals and satisfactory condition after 4 days of hospital stay.
