Faris Ali 's Story

What were we doing when we were seven years old? Certainly, most of us were not losing consciousness and fainting or gasping for breath all the time like Faris Ali. Faris hails from Mardan, a resident of Sayrai Sher Garh Tehsil Takhat-Bahi district. These details are insignificant as compared to what we have to share with you about Faris. This little angel suffers from a condition called Tetralogy of Fallot or TOF. 

TOF is not one heart defect. Rather, it is a combination of four cardiac defects. This combination damages the very structure of the human heart, affecting its pumping function severely. Faris bears all the symptoms of the disease, which include shortness of breath as well as heart murmurs. The congenital disorder Faris is suffering from was first diagnosed by a heart surgeon at a government cardiac facility. The little one’s family has tried their hands at medicines but the relief is temporary. Open heart surgery is the only ray of hope in Faris’s life.

But that ray of light is at the end of a very long, dark tunnel which Faris must journey through. The financial status of Faris’s family isn’t, by any stretch of the imagination, one in which it can manage an open heart surgery. Six family members living in a dingy 3-marla house which has only one stream of income managing it. That too is only 12 thousand PKR, earned through the kid’s father’s hard work. The family expresses its fears, which even the best of words can’t mince:

“Every single time we have seen Faris put his tiny hands to his chest, a little something has broken inside us. We have known about his condition since he was a four months old baby but there isn’t much hope for us unless a miracle happens. And by a miracle, we mean people chipping in at Transparent Hands for Faris’s cause. The only hope that is keeping our kid’s heart beating”
