Saima Parvin's Story

Saima Parvin, 32 years of age, has been suffering from a lot of pain in the right hypochondriac area along with vomiting and abdominal stretch for the past year. After visiting a doctor, she was diagnosed with cholelithiasis – commonly known as stones in the gallbladder. The doctors advised her to get a lap. cholecystectomy – a surgery in which the gallbladder is removed. The doctor recommended her to get the surgery as soon as possible to gain permanent relief from the pain.

For the last two months her symptoms have gotten worse. Not having the financial means to pay for the surgery herself, Saima Parvin visited many doctors asking them to operate on her free of cost but was denied help every time. I am unable to cook for them because when I’m in pain it feels like someone is stabbing knives in my stomach. She got married five years ago and has two sons, aged 2 years and 4 years. Their life took a bad turn last year when she had sold all her jewellery so that her husband moved to Dubai and earned for the family. But COVID-19 changed everything for them. Her husband is stuck in Dubai with a job that is unstable and only pays PKR 12000 a month.

Saima Parvin being a graduate herself and saving grace for the family managed to earn some money by giving tuitions to school going children living in her neighbourhood. Together, they managed to earn PKR 14000 a month which hardly covered their expenses since their monthly house rent is PKR 3000. For the past couple of months Saima’s symptoms have gotten worse; she has been unable to look after her 2 and 4-year-old children. They have gone days without having a proper meal.

Saima Parvin's Story

32-year-old Saima Parvin was diagnosed with multiple gall stones. The physician advised a laparoscopic cholecystectomy for her. She was admitted in Abid hospital and the surgical procedure was performed by Dr. Abdul Saeed Sajjid on 22.10.2020. Her gall bladder was successfully removed. Saima stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in a stable condition. The debilitating pain that interrupted her daily chores has finally subsided and she is recovering quickly.
