Abu Bakar's Story

Meet Abu Bakar, an innocent 2-year-old boy from Shahdadkot, who can’t hear. Upon noticing his inability to hear, his parents took him to a nearby hospital and received a consultation from a doctor. The doctor conducted some medical tests and diagnosed Abu Bakar with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery that will enable him to hear and speak. It was shocking news for his parents and now it has been a constant source of worry for them. As he grows, the silence that surrounds him becomes a more challenging barrier, preventing him from fully experiencing the world and connecting with those around him. However, the cost of the surgery is beyond his family’s financial means.

If Abu Bakar doesn’t receive the cochlear implant surgery soon, the consequences can be severe. He will continue to live in silence, unable to develop the ability to hear and speak. The isolation he experiences is heartbreaking for his family, who want nothing more than to help him engage with the world.

Abu Bakar lives in a small mud house with his parents and two siblings. His father, the sole provider for the family, works long hours as a farmer and just makes PKR 20,000 monthly. Moreover, the family is burdened with a loan of PKR 170,000. With his meager monthly income, he hardly manages to pay for the utility bills and other living expenses. The family is surviving in extreme poverty and can’t afford the costly surgery. With hopes in their hearts, Abu Bakar’s parents reached out to Transparent Hands and asked us for help.

His parents described their heartfelt plea as follows:

“We just want Abu Bakar to hear, speak, and enjoy his childhood. It’s heartbreaking to see him struggle to hear and respond to us. His life is filled with hardships. We request your help in this time of need.”

Abu Bakar's Story

Abu Bakar, a 3-year-old boy from Shahdadkot, was unable to hear the sounds around him. He used to avoid interacting with other kids as he couldn’t understand them. Therefore, his cognitive milestones were getting delayed. His parents took him to a local hospital and received a consultation from a doctor, who conducted some medical tests and diagnosed him with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). To allow him to hear his loved ones, the doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery. Unfortunately, the surgical cost was beyond his family’s financial capacity.

Abu Bakar lived in a small mud house with his parents and two siblings. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked as a farmer and earned just PKR 20,000 per month. With this meager monthly income, it was significantly challenging for them to fulfill even their necessities. The cost of the surgery was overwhelming and it was beyond their reach. Abu Bakar’s parents were heartbroken to see their child in this situation. That’s when they decided to reach out to Transparent Hands for assistance. After listening to their concerns, we promptly registered Abu Bakar’s case.

On 29th August 2024, Abu Bakar was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on 30th August 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. After receiving post-operative care and critical monitoring, Abu Bakar was discharged in satisfactory condition on 31st August 2024.

The external component of the cochlear implant was installed six weeks after the surgery. To fully experience the world of sounds, Abu Bakar now receives speech therapy sessions. Abu Bakar’s parents shared their emotions as follows:

“We never thought we’d see the day when our son could hear us. It feels like a miracle. We are so thankful for the help we received. Our son now has a bright future.”

This life-changing moment for him was made possible by your generosity. His parents are overjoyed by the progress he is making. They are deeply grateful for your continued support, which changed Abu Bakar’s life.
