Nazia Waqas's Story

Nazia Waqas, a 27-year-old woman from Lahore, has been suffering from severe pain in the upper right side of her abdomen, along with nausea and discomfort, especially after eating fatty meals. As her symptoms became more frequent and difficult to bear, she visited the hospital for a detailed evaluation. After a clinical examination and the necessary investigations, the doctor diagnosed her with symptomatic gallstones. Gallstones are hardened deposits that form inside the gallbladder. To relieve her symptoms, the doctor has recommended an open cholecystectomy. Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery is beyond her family’s financial means. Without the recommended surgery, Nazia’s condition may continue to worsen. Untreated gallstones can lead to severe inflammation of the gallbladder, blockage of the bile ducts, infection, pancreatitis, and abdominal pain that can significantly affect her health.

Nazia is a housewife and mother of four children. Her husband works as a factory labourer and is the sole earning member of the family, earning only PKR 30,000 per month. His income is used to support six family members, including monthly educational expenses of PKR 5,000 and utility bills of PKR 7,000. After meeting these essential household expenses, the family is left with no means to afford the cost of Nazia’s surgery.

Nazia said in despair:

“The pain has made even routine household tasks difficult for me. My husband works tirelessly to support our family, but his income is only enough to cover our basic needs. Kindly help me receive this surgery so I can recover and take care of my family without constant pain.”
