Forty three years old Abida Parveen suffered from on and off pain in her upper abdomen. At first, she did not pay much attention to the pain. But, later on, Abida developed an intolerance to fatty meals as well. When these symptoms persisted for a long period of time, she consulted a doctor. After thorough investigation, the doctor diagnosed her with Cholelithiasis. Cholelithiasis refers to the formation of gallstones. These concretions are usually formed in the biliary tract in the gallbladder.
To treat this condition, the doctor has advised Abida to undergo a Cholecystectomy. Cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder. While the surgery offers a permanent solution to Abida’s problem, there is no denying that it is quite an expensive medical procedure. Unfortunately, Abida cannot afford the hefty cost of this surgery. Abida’s father works as a driver and hardly earns PKR 35000 per month. Abida told us:
“When you grow up poor, you are always taught to bury your pains in your pillow. Whenever my abdominal pain got out of hand, I just cried a few tears in my pillow and went on with my day. Now, I cannot take it anymore. It must end. The pain must end.”

Abida Parveen's Story
Abida Perveen, aged 43 years, suffered from frequent episodes of abdominal pain for about one year. Furthermore, she could not digest fatty meals at all. More recently, her pain increased manifolds along with constant nausea and vomiting. On medical consultation, she was diagnosed with symptomatic gallstones and the doctor advised cholecystectomy for her. For this purpose, she was admitted to Akram Medical Complex and the surgery was performed by Dr. Ahmed Fawad on 11.06.2021. Her diseased gallbladder was removed. She stayed in the hospital for one day and was discharged in a stable condition. Abida feels much better post-surgery. Her abdominal pain has finally ceased.
