You Can Change Saira’s Future with Tonsillectomy
Saira Muneer Ahmed's Story
Saira Muneer Ahmed, a 12-year-old girl from Hyderabad, has been experiencing repeated episodes of severe sore throat, fever, and painful swallowing for the past four years. Her condition makes it difficult for her to focus on her studies and lead a healthy life. Concerned about her condition, her family took her to a nearby doctor for a detailed evaluation. After conducting the necessary examinations and laboratory tests, the doctor diagnosed Saira with Chronic Tonsillitis and recommended a Tonsillectomy. Chronic tonsillitis is a condition in which the tonsils become repeatedly infected and inflamed. However, the cost of the surgery is beyond her family’s financial means. If left untreated, Saira’s chronic tonsillitis will diminish her quality of life. It may lead to complications like peritonsillar abscess, tonsillar enlargement, and spread of infection to other organs.
Saira is a student who lives with her parents and four siblings in her grandfather’s house in Hyderabad. Her father works as a security guard and is the family’s only earning member, bringing home just PKR 29,000 per month. He supports a family of seven, including five children. Their eldest son is living with a mental illness, while two of Saira’s sisters are studying in a government school. With this modest income, the family also manages monthly utility expenses of PKR 2,000 along with all other household needs. Despite her father’s efforts, their income is not enough to afford Saira’s surgery.
Saira’s parents said in despair:
“It is heartbreaking to watch our daughter suffer from repeated throat infections and pain. As parents, we want her to have a healthy childhood and focus on her education. We can’t afford her treatment. Kindly donate to her surgery.”
Saira deserves a childhood free from pain and repeated illness.
