Bakhtawar Majeed’s VSD Closure Surgery was Successful
Bakhtawar Majeed's Story
Bakhtawar Majeed, a 13-year-old girl from Dera Ghazi Khan, had been experiencing shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. Her parents came to know about her condition when she was one year old. They took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who after conducting some medical tests diagnosed Bakhtawar with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction (LVOTO), and Left Ventricular Volume Overload (LVVO). Bakhtawar’s life was filled with hardships as any mild to moderate physical activity left her gasping for air. She used to feel tired and couldn’t gain weight properly. The doctor recommended VSD Closure surgery and subaortic membrane resection.
However, the surgical cost was impossible to bear for Bakhtawar’s family. Bakhtawar lives in a two-room brick house with her five family members. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and brings in just PKR 28000 per month. With rising living costs, he couldn’t afford the expensive surgery that could save Bakhtawar’s life. Her parents were heartbroken, knowing they couldn’t give their daughter the help she needed. During this time of need, Transparent Hands stepped in to help Bakhtawar. Recognizing the gravity of her condition, we registered her case, assuring her she could have the surgery without waiting for too long.
On 8th July 2024, Bakhtawar was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. The surgery was scheduled for 9th July 2024. Dr. Faiz Rasool performed the procedure, successfully closing the defects in her heart. Post-surgery, she was hospitalized for five days and received critical care and monitoring. On 13th July 2024, she recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
Bakhtawar’s recovery was smooth, and her parents were overjoyed. They said:
“Seeing her breathe easily for the first time without struggling is like a dream has come true. You helped us during our time of need. We can never thank you enough for saving our daughter’s life.”
Now, Bakhtawar is thriving. She’s gaining weight, her breathing is normal, and she’s free to grow up healthy and strong. Her parents are immensely grateful to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for giving their daughter a chance at a bright future. You proved to be a miracle in her time of need.
