Iman is now able to Hear the World
Iman Fatima 's Story
Iman Fatima, a one-and-a-half-year-old resident of Nowshera, was born with congenital sensorineural hearing loss, leaving her in a silent world. Concerned about her lack of response to their voices, her parents sought medical advice and received a heartbreaking diagnosis: sensorineural deafness. The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery as the best option for Iman’s condition. However, the cost of the procedure was a significant obstacle for her family, who faced financial constraints.
Iman’s family persevered and registered her case with Transparent Hands. With their support, she was admitted to the National Hospital, Lahore, where Dr. Naveed Aslam performed the cochlear implant surgery on 14-07-2023. The internal component of the implant was successfully fixed, and after a day of observation, Iman was discharged.
Although her journey to restored hearing was not yet complete, Iman remained determined. She returned to the hospital a few weeks later to have the external component of the cochlear implant attached. This marked a significant turning point in her life as she entered a world filled with sound.
Recognizing the importance of language and communication in her development, Iman’s doctor recommended speech therapy sessions to help her grasp the intricacies of speech. Through these sessions, she gradually honed her language and communication skills, gaining a deeper understanding of spoken words.
Iman’s newfound ability to hear became a gateway to education, social engagement, and a more fulfilling life. The cochlear implant acted as a conduit, allowing her to actively participate in conversations and feel embraced and connected during social occasions. With her restored hearing, she formed significant bonds, shared laughter, and created cherished memories with her family, friends, and peers.
This life-transforming surgery, made possible through the kindness of donors became a milestone in Iman’s life. Their generosity granted her the precious gift of hearing, an impact that will shape her life forever.
