Shabbir Is Thankful to You For Empowering Him with an Artificial Leg

Shabbir Hussain's Story

Shabbir Hussain, a 40-year-old man from Vehari, Punjab, had been facing life-changing difficulties for the past three years. While working at a sugarcane factory, his leg was severely crushed in a machine. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors had no option but to amputate his left leg above the knee level. This tragic incident completely changed his life. After the amputation, Shabbir was unable to walk and continue his job. Routine tasks that once seemed simple became extremely difficult for him. His doctor advised a left-sided above-knee prosthesis. However, the cost of the artificial leg was beyond his means.

Shabbir lives in a modest rented home with his joint family of six members. After losing his job due to his disability, the entire responsibility of the household fell on his father. His father works as a daily wage laborer and earns only PKR 18,000 per month. With this meager income, they hardly cover their utility bills as well as grocery expenses. During this challenging situation, Shabbir reached out to Transparent Hands for help. After listening to his concerns, we registered his case.

On February 19, 2026, the size measurement for his left artificial limb was carried out at the Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of Differently Abled (PSRD) in Lahore. On March 3, 2026, Shabbir received his left-sided above-knee prosthesis. The fitting process was completed successfully under the supervision of Dr. Shabana Naz.

Shabbir expressed his happiness as follows:

“After my accident, I felt like my life had come to a stop. I was completely dependent on others and had lost all hope. Receiving this artificial leg has given me a new sense of strength. I am deeply thankful to you for helping me during my difficult time.”

Today, Shabbir is gradually adapting to his prosthetic leg.
