Zain, a one-year-old boy from Vehari, faced a daunting battle against multiple heart defects. His parents grew increasingly concerned as they witnessed symptoms such as cyanosis, dyspnea, and recurrent episodes of chest pain. Determined to find answers and help for their son, they sought medical attention at a local hospital. After undergoing a series of diagnostic tests, the cardiologist delivered a diagnosis that confirmed their worst fears: Zain had ventricular septal defect (VSD), mild pulmonary stenosis (PS), and pulmonary hypertension (PHT). To address these life-threatening conditions, the doctor strongly recommended that Zain undergo open-heart surgery for VSD closure.

In the face of this daunting medical reality, Zain’s family found themselves burdened not only with worry but also with financial constraints. Zain’s father, the sole provider for the family, earned a monthly income of PKR 60,000. The cost of the life-saving heart surgery seemed insurmountable, further exacerbating their already challenging financial situation. However, a glimmer of hope emerged when a relative informed them about Transparent Hands.

Zain was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore, where the skilled hands of Dr. Asim Khan, on October 30, 2023, successfully performed the much-needed surgery. Through a median sternotomy, VSD closure, and PDA ligation, Dr. Khan skillfully addressed the complex challenges within Zain’s heart. The surgery was a resounding success. 

Zain’s hospital stay lasted five days, during which he received exceptional care and support from the dedicated staff at Ittefaq Hospital. Their unwavering dedication to Zain’s well-being played a crucial role in his comfort and recovery.
